TMJ Dentist

TMJ disorder is when one or both of the temporomandibular joints do not function properly. Your temporomandibular joint connects your lower jaw to the temporal bone of the skull. You can find these on the front of each side of your head as you open and close your mouth. You can develop TMJ if improper jaw alignment or an oral injury causes problems with the surrounding muscles or the temporomandibular joint itself. Teeth grinding and clenching your jaw are significant contributors to TMJ as well.

If you experience headaches, neck and shoulder pain, jaw pain, clicking or popping in your jaw, and tinnitus (ringing in the ears), you may need to see a specialized temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ) dentist such as Dr. Biron.

The TMJ dentist works to balance your bite with the muscles in your mouth. Left undiagnosed and untreated, TMJ can become progressively worse. Additionally, the earlier patients begin treatment for TMJ, the greater the chances for a successful outcome of complete restoration and functionality of your jaw and its joints.

TMJ Specialist

Most patients who suffer from TMJ will need to rely on a TMJ specialist to resolve their issues. Dr. Biron, in addition to his cosmetic dental training, has further educated himself to become a certified TMJ specialist.

As a TMJ specialist, he can properly diagnose the condition and treat the underlying causes. There a number of TMJ treatment options which focus on correcting how the jaw should properly function which relieves pain and discomfort.

TMJ Symptoms

At your consultation Biron will carefully examine your mouth and how it functions. We will want to rule out any underlying illnesses and causes for the TMJ symptoms, such as previous trauma to your face. The dentist will also be able to identify if you unconsciously clench your jaw or grind your teeth, if you bite the inside of your cheeks or have a misaligned jaw. If you have symptoms similar to those above, contact Dr. Biron for a thorough TMJ consultation.
